It was wonderful to see our community come together to take part in our NAIDOC Week celebrations highlighting the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
I would like to thank Council staff and the Reconciliation Action Plan working Group who worked so hard putting together this exciting program of events for our community.
Our school holiday program has been popular with Bayside young people with a range of free activities at the Arncliffe Youth Centre, our libraries, community halls, and external venues to keep young people engaged and active over the holiday period.
Other great events to look forward to are the Bayside Winter Wonderland at Bexley North in August, the Spring Fair at Eastlakes in September and of course the Bayside Food and Wine Festival at Mascot Memorial Park in November. Expressions of Interest for stallholders at these events are still open and I encourage all interested local businesses to get in an application.
Local Government elections are on Saturday 14 September. There are five Wards in Bayside and some boundary changes to Wards 1, 2, 3 and 5 come into effect for the elections. If you are unsure about your Ward, please check the interactive map on Council’s website . Voting is compulsory for all eligible Australian citizens.
Finally, like most Rockdale residents I was devastated to hear that the Rockdale Post Office is closing in September.
I am writing to the CEO of Australia Post outlining our concerns and reminding Australia Post about the important role the postal service plays in keeping our communities connected and our business precincts prosperous. Government services should be about community and not profit.
You can express your concerns about the proposed closure by signing our petition
