People with Disability

We are committed to creating an inclusive community and so we work to ensure all members of the community can access services, facilities, programs and events regardless of ability, age or circumstance. As part of this work we continually engage with the disability sector, service providers and government agencies to continually improve disability access and advocacy across the community.

Council's all-inclusive programs and events

Bayside Council runs a number of programs and events that are all-inclusive.

The Arncliffe Youth Centre runs regular term and holiday programs which are accessible to all abilities and can be viewed here.

Bayside Libraries runs regular programs for children throughout the year which can be booked up to two weeks before each event.

We also have an aquatic wheelchair access ramp that rolls into a heated pool at the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre as well as the Rainbow Swim Club. Further information can be found by contacting the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre team on 9150 5288.

For any other enquiries regarding Access and Inclusion please contact Bayside Council's Disability Specialist on 9366 3683 or email admin.community.life@bayside.nsw.gov.au

Disability and Access

We know the importance of creating an inclusive environment that enables people living with disability to participate fully in daily life as active members of the community. It is estimated up to 18% of the Bayside population requires some type of assistance to go about their day to day lives.

To raise a concern about access in the community contact Council on 1300 581 299.

Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026

Council is committed to building an inclusive and welcoming community for all.

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026 details the actions Council will take over the next four years to improve the way people with disability access services and participate in community life. There is also an Easy Read Version of the Plan available.

The Plan has been developed following a review of Council’s previous Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017-2021 and engagement with people with lived experience of disability and industry stakeholders.

To speak to us about the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, please call Council on 1300 581 299 and ask to speak to the Community Support & Programs Team or email community.life@bayside.nsw.gov.au

International Day of People with Disability

December 3 is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), a United Nations observed day aimed at increasing public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

We support IDPwD annually by acknowledging and celebrating the contributions and achievements of people with disability in the community, and by promoting inclusive attitudes and behaviours.

Community Services

Community organisations can help you find and access local support services as well as mainstream health, education and recreation programs. The following contacts will help you find information about local services.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.

The NDIS provides people under the age of 65 who have been born with or acquire a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live the life of their choice.

An insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach and so invests in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.

For more information please contact the Community Life Team 9366 3680.
