Volunteering

More and more people are getting involved in their communities as volunteers, offering their time and energy to improve the quality of life for themselves and others.

People volunteer for a variety of reasons and in many different ways depending on their interested, skills, age and availability. Committing to volunteer for one hour a week can have a profound benefit on your well-being.

Over 3.6 million Australians aged 15 years and over engage in voluntary work through an organisation or group on a regular basis.

All Bayside Council volunteers are required to participate in an Induction Program and sign a Volunteer Agreement Form before they attend an activity. The Council officer in charge of the activity will organise this for you.

BushCare

Why not help protect and restore Bayside's beautiful wetlands, bushland and foreshore reserves for future generations by becoming a Bushcare volunteer today? Volunteers are involved in a number of regeneration projects and are active in:

• Lambert Road Reserve, Bardwell Park
• Hawthorne Street Natural Area, Ramsgate
• Binnamittalong Gardens, Bexley
• Sir Joseph Banks Park, Botany
• Stotts Reserve, Bexley North
• Kyeemagh Boat Ramp Reserve, Kyeemagh

Library Services

Council's extensive network of Library services often use volunteers to help deliver valuable programs to the community. Activities may be located at different locations and could include:

• Justice of the Peace (JP) Service Desk
• Conducting language classes
• Technology assistance
• Facilitating special interest programs for children and teens

Community Gardens

Do you love to garden but don't have the space or can no longer maintain one? Why not become a member of a community garden? It's a great way to use your interest and / or skills in gardening and meet new people in a relaxed environment.

Community gardens are spaces where local residents join together to grow a variety of herbs, fruit, vegetables and ornamental flowers. Members work together to tend the garden and share in the produce grown. Council can put you in touch with a local community garden located in Kyeemagh, Sans Souci, Rosebery, Rockdale and Eastlakes.
