Bayside Council, in partnership with Grow It Local, presented the 2025 Local Grower Award to Michelle Elliot from Rockdale.
Bayside Council and Grow It Local have been helping residents improve their backyard vegetable gardens since 2023.
The annual Grow it Local Awards, now in its fifth year, is Australia’s most colourful and inclusive gardening awards with categories like: ‘Why I Love My Patch’ Award, Homegrown Harvest Award, Australia’s Best Chicken Name, Local Grower Award, Australia’s Wonkiest Vegetable, and the Patch People Award.
The Local Grower Award celebrates a local grower sharing and eating their own food grown either at home or in a community garden.
Congratulations to Michelle Elliot from Rockdale who won the 2025 Local Grower Award.
Michelle, who lives in an apartment is a member of the Rockdale Community Garden and grows a lot of her own food. She received a compost bin from Bayside Council for the positive contribution she has made to the community, that she will keep at the community garden.
To enter the 2025 Grow It Local competition residents had to post a photo or video on Instagram or Facebook and tag Bayside Council and Grow it Local.
Grow It Local is an online food growing community that helps educate and support members to grow food in their own backyard.
Bayside residents who join Grow It Local can take advantage of free organic seeds and community workshops.
