Home Renovations

If you’re thinking about renovating your home, there are a number of things to consider.

Before erecting or making changes to a building or other premises such as a garage or shed, you may need to submit a development application.

You can find out if this applies to your renovation by viewing the common application types for development approvals here.

Safety Considerations

Before commencing any renovations, it’s important to consider any safety implications such as asbestos or lead paint.

Buildings, houses or flats erected before the mid 1980s may contain asbestos. Asbestos is commonly found in fibro sheeting, vinyl tiles and backing, guttering, roods or drainage and flue pipes.

You can find information about the removal of asbestos here.

Lead paint can also be found in houses during renovations, particularly for houses constructed prior to 1970. Find out about more about lead paint here
