Changes to Waste Services
Bayside Council is implementing waste service changes to deliver a more efficient service to residents. This will involve bin replacement, and impact bin collection service days and scheduled clean up days.
Collection Schedules
Some households will have their waste collection schedule changed as Bayside works to optimise waste services. From Monday 6 January 2025, changes to zones for scheduled clean ups will come into effect. Changes to regular bin collection services come into effect from Monday 3 March 2025.
There are several ways to check your collection days:
Search your address on the Bayside Waste Services App
View the Multi Dwelling Waste Map
View the Single Dwelling Waste Map
In order to find out if your bin collection days or clean up days are changing on the app, you will need to update to the latest version of the Bayside Waste Services App. This update is necessary to receive all the information for 2025. You can also call our Customer Service team on 1300 581 299.
Service Zones and Routes
Bin collection and clean up collection service zones and routes have been revised by Council to increase efficiency and improve customer service. For further information and assistance, residents can check their waste calendar, visit the Bayside Council website, download the Bayside Waste Services App, or call Customer Service on 1300 581 299.
Bin Replacement
As part of this initiative, all old mobile bins (red, yellow and green-lidded) will be replaced with new ones. This does not include the newly-issued green-lidded bins that have been distributed as part of the garden organics program.
This is part of Council’s routine replacement of older bins to ensure they are appropriately and consistently sized and feature correct signage, as well as to help reduce repair and maintenance costs. The new bins are made up of up to 80% recycled materials.
Bins will be replaced during a bin collection day between January and March.
As part of the Bin Replacement Program, residents can specifically request a 120L bin by completing and submitting this form by the 13th of December to avoid receiving a 240L in January. You will have the opportunity to request a smaller or larger bin in the future if your circumstances change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bin Replacement
What bins will be replaced?
Starting in January 2025, all mobile bins (red, yellow, and green-lidded) will be replaced with new ones, except for any newly issued, green-lidded bins.
Why are my bins being replaced?
Bin replacement programs normally occur every 10-15 years, and are generally aligned with new contracts, technology and/or service changes.
Bins will be replaced to ensure they are appropriately and consistently sized, feature correct and consistent labelling, and to help reduce repair and maintenance costs associated with older bins.
When will bins be delivered and replaced?
If you live in a house, villa, townhouse, or terrace, bin replacements will occur between Monday 13 January and Friday 4 April 2025.
If you live in a unit, bins will be replaced between Monday 20 January and Friday 28 February 2025.
How and when will my bins be replaced?
The replacement process will take place from January to April 2025.
If you live in a house, terrace, townhouse or villa, you will receive new bins two days prior to your current collection days. They will include a tag with instructions for the removal of old bins.
You will need to leave old bins at the kerb after your collection service. They will be collected within 48 hours.
You can start using your new bins once your old bins have been collected.
If you live in units where you are sharing bins, the old bins will be removed and replaced with new bins on the same day.
What is a standard bin service allocation and the new collection frequency?
If you live in a house, villa, townhouse, or terrace:
Waste Stream | Standard Bin Size | Service Frequency |
General Waste | 240L | Weekly |
Recycling | 240L | Fortnightly (Alternate) |
Garden Organics | 240L | Fortnightly (Alternate) |
If you live in a unit, bin sizes may vary from 240L (standard) to 1100L depending on site, and capacity conversions* will apply:
Waste Stream | Available Bin Size* | Service Frequency |
General Waste | 240L, 660L, 1100L | Twice Weekly |
Recycling | 240L, 660L, 1100L | Weekly |
Garden Organics | 240L | Weekly |
For unit buildings without onsite general waste compaction, the ratio of standard size bins allocated are:
Waste Stream | Standard Bin Ratio | Conditions |
General Waste | 1 bin per 2 units | No onsite compaction |
Recycling | 1 bin per 2 units | – |
Garden Organics | 1 bin per 5 units | Maximum 10 bins per site |
For unit buildings with onsite general waste compaction (up to 1:2), the ratio of standard size bins allocated are:
Waste Stream | Standard Bin Ratio | Conditions |
General Waste | 1 bin per 4 units | 1:2 onsite compaction |
Recycling | 1 bin per 2 units | – |
Garden Organics | 1 bin per 5 units | Maximum 10 bins per site |
Can I request a smaller sized bin?
If you live in a house, villa, terrace or townhouse, your new bins will be the standard 240L size to ensure residents have sufficient bin space for their general waste, recycling and garden organics. Should you require smaller bins due to space or other issues, please contact Council on 1300 581 299.
What will happen to all the old bins?
All old bins will be recycled to make new products, including new mobile bins.
Are the new bins made up of recycled content?
Yes, the new standard bin is made up of up to 80 per cent recycled materials.
What happens if we missed issuing your new bins and/or removing your old bins?
If we haven’t issued you a new bin or have missed collecting your old bin, contact Customer Service on 1300 581 299.
When do I start using my new bins?
You can use your new bins once you receive them.
Can I refuse this request to have new bins delivered and old bins removed?
No, this is a Council-wide initiative.
Bin Collection Day Change
Will my service days change?
Your bin collection service days may change from Monday 3 March 2025.
How do I find out if my bin collection day has changed?
To check your bin collection day, you can check the waste calendar on the Bayside Waste Services App or refer to your hard copy waste calendar (new calendars are arriving in early 2025).
To see your calendar on the Bayside Waste Services App, head here [page link], click on the menu icon in the top left corner and click ‘Set Your Address’. There you can input your address and when you click on the ‘Calendar’ the collection schedule will reflect your location.
Please ensure you have the latest version of the Bayside Waste Services App. It is required to receive 2025 information. If you have downloaded it prior to December 2024, it may require an update.
For further assistance, contact Bayside Customer Service on 1300 581 299.
Why is this change happening?
Service zones and routes have been revised by Council to increase reliability, enable more efficient waste collections and improve customer service.
When will these changes be implemented?
Changes to bin collection services commence from Monday 3 March 2025.
Who do these service changes apply to?
Changes will apply for all rateable residential and commercial properties throughout the Bayside Council area that are paying for a Council waste service.
New Service Zone maps will be published on Council’s website, where you will be able to identify new service days.
I’m moving house, should I take my bins with me to my new address?
No, bins provided to residential properties are owned by our waste contractor and should remain at the property to which they were originally delivered.
If I have a new house, how can I get bins and a bin service?
New houses will be provided with bins and a bin service upon confirmation of a new domestic waste service application.
Complete the Bin Application on Council’s website and send it to council@bayside.nsw.gov.au.
Clean up collection days
When do I receive a new clean up calendar?
You will receive a separate clean up calendar in your mailbox for the first scheduled clean up day in 2025 (between Wednesday 1 January and Sunday 30 March 2025).
If your last scheduled clean up day is in December 2025, it is likely that you won’t receive a separate clean up calendar.
The scheduled clean up calendar for 2025 will be incorporated into a new waste, recycling and clean up calendar which will be distributed to you in January and February 2025.
Why is my clean up day changed?
We are updating scheduled clean up services to maximise the efficiency of the service, working to reduce timing and costs of the service. This means your clean up zone may change.
The improved service also considers recent changes in the number of new houses and apartments in the area.
You will still receive four free scheduled clean up services per year.
When will the scheduled clean up day be changed?
The scheduled clean up day will be in effect from Wednesday 1 January 2025.
How do I find out when my clean up days are in 2025?
Check your scheduled clean up day through the Bayside Waste Services app, or by referring to your hard copy waste calendar, scheduled to arrive in early 2025.
To check your clean up day on the Bayside Waste Services app, head here [link], click on the menu icon in the top left corner and click ‘Set Your Address’. There you can input your address and when you click on the ‘Calendar’ the collection schedule will reflect your location.
Please ensure you have the latest version of the Bayside Waste Services App. It is required to receive 2025 information. If you have downloaded it prior to December 2024, it may require an update.
For further assistance, contact Bayside Customer Service on 1300 581 299
Will there be any other changes to the clean up service?
There is no change in the service. You still can present up to three cubic metres of waste for each collection.
Make sure you only put out acceptable items in the scheduled clean up (check your calendar or the waste guide for more information).
You also can arrange a paid additional clean up service if you have a large amount of waste that exceeds the entitled amount for collections. This service is available on a user pays basis
