You require approval from Bayside Council if you plan to install temporary ground anchors in a public road to support excavation below the existing road surface level.
We support two types of ground anchors:
- Strand ground anchors – has steel strands or cables to provide structures like retaining walls with lateral support. Anchors are installed by drilling, grouting, and tensioning, and remain in the ground after cutting the strands
- Screw ground anchors – has helical plates to support vertical and horizontal loads, and are rotated by reversing the installation process which leaves the site anchor free due to their straightforward extraction method.
We can’t provide approval for the installation of ground anchors under private property. A separate access agreement with each affected landowner must be obtained.
We have no statutory obligation to ensure that the access agreements with the private landowners have been obtained prior to issuing approval.
