More than 300 residents turned up for one last swim at the Botany Aquatic Centre on Sunday 27 April, celebrating the legacy of the Centre before the pool closed for redevelopment.
Entry to the pool was free to allow everyone to enjoy a family-friendly morning of fun activities including pony rides, a petting zoo, a rock-climbing wall and a free BBQ hosted by the Botany RSL Swim Club.
The morning ended with all the children jumping into the pool for one last big splash and Mayor Edward McDougall locked the doors once everyone was out of the Centre.
The planned redevelopment will include upgrades to the amenities, change rooms and the kiosk, adventure waterplay and slides, a 50 metre outdoor competition pool, an indoor learn to swim pool a 25 metre indoor lap pool, a new grandstand, gym space, and landscaping.
The new Botany Aquatic Centre is expected to open for the summer 2027/28 season. More information about the planned redevelopment can be found on Council’s website.
