Message from the Mayor

Friday 17 May 2024

It was wonderful to see so many families help plant trees and flowering shrubs at our recent Trees for Mum Mother’s Day events.

The 70 trees and shrubs will now provide habitat for small native birds and help improve our green canopy.

I am also happy to report that, following Council’s intervention, a large fig tree in Ramsgate has been saved. Sydney Water undertook repairs to a damaged wastewater pipe without the need to remove this magnificent tree that is now on our draft Significant Tree Register.

This weekend Council launches Chapel Nights, two intimate concerts in the historical St Magdalene’s Chapel in Wolli Creek featuring Middle Eastern and Chinese classical music.

This is an innovative use of a wonderful old building and I hope this venue will provide more events like this for our community to enjoy.

Finally, Council is hosting a guided tour through our native bush tucker garden in Sir Joseph Banks Park during National Reconciliation Week.

I encourage you all to come along and learn more about our edible plants and native bees.

The theme of National Reconciliation Week is Now More Than Ever and this guided tour will provide an opportunity to reflect on our shared histories and help contribute to reconciliation in Australia.

Finally, if I can assist you with any Council matter, please contact my office at mayor@bayside.nsw.gov.au.
