Apprentice Mechanic - Heavy Vehicle

About the Role:

Bayside Council’s fleet is extensive and as an apprentice mechanic with us, you’ll have exposure to everything from lawnmowers right through to our 11 tonne waste compactors. Gaining experience like this whilst doing your apprenticeship cannot be beaten!!

Become a qualified heavy diesel mechanic and learn to diagnose, repair and maintain heavy vehicles. Gain the skills you need to fix all vehicles (including large trucks), keeping them safe and operational. Enjoy a rewarding career in a skills shortage industry and play an important role in keeping trucks on the road. This is a full-time, max term position that combines practical, on-the-job learning with formal training, leading to a trade qualification.


Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Using hand and power tools in a workshop equipment
  • Diagnosing and repairing heavy vehicle automotive, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Disassembling and reassembling components and mechanical systems
  • Working independently and collaboratively
  • Following safe working practices
     

We’re looking for someone with:

  •  An interest in mechanics
  • Maths and English skills at a year 10 level
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • A reasonable level of fitness to manage the physical demands of the role

Salary Range: $803.30 per week plus 11.5% superannuation.
