DA Lodged for Botany Aquatic Centre Redevelopment

Bayside Council is excited to advise that a major milestone towards creating the new Botany Aquatic Centre has been reached with the lodgement of the Development Application (DA) for the entire project to the NSW Planning portal.

The DA will be assessed by an external planning consultant and the Independent Planning Panel will undertake the determination.  As we cannot predict the timeframe for this process to be completed, the decision has been made to keep the pool open for next summer and not risk having to close mid-season.

This means the much-loved centre will be open for the 2024/25 summer season, and construction for the upgrade will commence shortly after in Winter 2025.

We acknowledge that the timeline has taken longer than expected, this has been due to site complexities and a requirement for updated flood modelling as part of the DA.

We have a range of activities planned for the community to enjoy our pool for one last time and this decision allows Council to ensure continuity of employment, programs, and services, such as learn-to-swim classes, swim clubs and school carnivals.

Anyone interested in learning more about our redevelopment work of Botany Aquatic Centre can go to our website.

Council will provide more updates as the project progresses.

Mayor Saravinovski said:

“We are pleased to be able to continue operation of the much-loved Botany Aquatic Centre for another season and allow residents to enjoy this important facility as the redevelopment project progresses,” Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.
